Glossary of Terms and Quick Tips
Understanding the terminology in the BTA Sports app helps you get the most out of every feature.
Below is a glossary of key terms, metrics, and quick tips to guide you as you analyze games, props, and probabilities.
Core Terms
BTA Line
BTA’s projected point spread or total for a matchup, generated by our internal AI models. It represents what our data says the line should be based on team strength, pace, and situational context.
Confidence (%) / Risk %
The model-calculated probability that a specific outcome will occur.
For example, a 68% Risk % means BTA’s models predict that result would hit 68 out of 100 times.
Fair Value Odds
Odds derived directly from BTA’s Risk %. These reflect the “true odds” without sportsbook margin (vig). Use this to compare against sportsbook pricing and identify potential value.
Estimated Win Probability
The overall likelihood of success for your single bet or parlay, calculated from all selected legs in your Risk Slip.
Value Gap
The difference between BTA’s model probability and the sportsbook’s implied probability. A positive value gap means BTA’s model sees a higher chance of success — a potential edge.
Implied Probability
The win probability that’s built into sportsbook odds. For example, +150 odds imply roughly a 40% chance to win.
Risk Analyzer
The tool that combines all your selections into a single slip and shows your true estimated win probability and fair-value odds.
Game View
The interactive matchup screen that displays BTA’s predicted line, totals, confidence levels, and sliders to test alternate lines.
Player Screen (Prop Analyzer)
Where you view player-specific props and model probabilities. You can adjust lines (e.g., receptions, yards) using sliders to test risk at different thresholds.
Fantasy IQ
BTA’s lineup optimization and projection tool for daily fantasy players. It provides AI-driven projections, player comparisons, and one-tap lineup optimization.
Alternate Lines / Totals
Adjusted versions of standard lines or totals. Moving to an alternate line (e.g., from -3.5 to +2.5) changes both risk percentage and payout.
Leg
A single selection or outcome within a parlay or multi-pick slip.
Parlay
A multi-leg bet combining two or more selections. All legs must win for the ticket to cash. BTA calculates the combined probability and fair odds.
Quick Tips
-
Look for value gaps: If BTA’s Risk % is higher than the sportsbook’s implied probability, that’s a sign of potential value.
-
Move the line: Use sliders to visualize how risk changes when you adjust spreads or totals.
-
Fewer legs, higher probability: Adding more legs to a parlay lowers the combined win percentage — balance risk and reward accordingly.
-
Use Fantasy IQ regularly: Optimize daily fantasy lineups before each slate for the latest player updates and projections.
-
Stay data-driven: BTA’s confidence metrics are designed to remove emotion from the decision-making process — let the models guide your analysis.
Key Takeaway
The more familiar you are with BTA’s terms, the better you can interpret each number and probability.
Every percentage, slider, and projection in the app is designed to help you make informed, data-backed betting and fantasy decisions.
